Our Supporters

Welcome to the 8th Annual Wounded Warriors Golf Classic.

Each year for the past 7 years, members of Hidden Creek Country Club in Reston, Virginia get together with wounded warriors from all over the east coast, local businesses and community members to play golf, share the spirit of friendly competition and raise money for charities that support our wounded warriors and their caregivers. So far over $500,000 has been raised in these efforts.  Join us in this fun and worthwhile event. If you are not a golfer and still would like to participate,  you can become a sponsor, register as a volunteer, join us for dinner or just make a donation.  Click the appropriate link for more information or to sign up.

2017 Format

In order to shorten the length of the day the format has been changed to 3 - 6 hole Ryder Cup Style Matches (18 holes total).   The field will be drafted into two teams -- Team Stripes and Team Stars -- competing in three 6-hole matches. The winning team gets to hoist the permanent WWGC Trophy. The festivities include a WWGC golf shirt, breakfast, lunch, dinner, prizes, a putting contest, awards and more -- all for a really really great cause.

Our Keynote Speaker

We are extremely privileged to announce that our Keynote Speaker for the 2017 WWGC dinner and awards will be Colonel Harvey C. (Barney) Barnum, Jr., USMC retired.  Col. Barnum received the Medal of Honor for valor during the Vietnam War.  He retired from the Marine Corps in 1989 after more than 27 years of service.  He also served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy from July 2001 to April 2009.

Background

As you know this event had its humble beginnings at Hidden Creek in 2010. There were just a few of us and most had never run a fundraising event. Together with wounded warrior guests we tested competition format that first year. We also learned how to bring awareness of our cause to our town. Soon we were fundraising and having fun. The movement gained traction as club members' enthusiasm and corporate support grew. In 2017 we donated over $40,000 to a number of charities, all that support wounded warriors and their caregivers. Not bad for a small bunch of golf nuts who love the game but who also care about our wounded warriors. In 2017 we once again have a goal to raise $100,000. The net proceeds in previous years were donated to David Feherty's TROOPS FIRST FOUNDATION, The Yellow Ribbon Fund, The Elizabeth Dole Foundation and Fort Belvoir Wounded Warrior Golf Program, The Travis Manion Foundation and others. We modify or may add to that list for 2017

I have many friends and fellow combat warriors whose names are chiseled on a black wall in DC and I honor their memory.  But the opportunity to share the day with these brave men and women who courageously face incredible daily challenges is inspiring and provides me with memories of kinship and comradery I will never forget.  The opportunity to support them to meet their challenges is a personal honor for me.”
