About Grassroots of Howard County
Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center is a 24-hour resource to individuals and families in need. These are men, women and children who find themselves without a place to sleep. These are co-workers, schoolmates, friends and even family who may be contemplating suicide. These are members of the community who are experiencing a crisis and are seeking help, advice, and sometimes just a roof. Grassroots is an emergency and transitional shelter, a 24-hour phone and walk-in crisis center and an educational resource for all.
Last year, Grassroots counselors met face-to-face with 2,664 people and answered 38,914 crisis calls from men, women and young people including those who were considering suicide. The Mobile Crisis Team went on 881 calls, helping the police intervene in situations that could lead to tragedy. In addition, 577 people were housed in Grassroots’ shelter programs, 164 of them were children. Another 1,083 people were served at the Day Resource Center, which assists people who are chronically homeless.
